Idaho Falls, ID to Edmonton, Alberta, CN – 858 miles
Today was get on the road and hammer down.
Left Idaho Falls at 7:58AM. I had one hour of beautiful sunny, blue skies with puffy clouds before it started to overcast. Thank goodness for electric grips! Between Dillon and Butte it was wet and cold. No rain, just sprinkles. But it was snowing on the mountain tops on both sides of I-15.
The entire day was riding into a three-quartering head wind. And the wind increased throughout the day.
I finally made it through a Canadian border without going into the building for a “third-degree” questioning.
Entering Canada reminds me of going to Disneyland. Both sides of the road is mowed and manicured, no litter, picture perfect cows, deer, grazing along the fence.
All the way from Idaho Springs to the Sweet Grass border crossing the speed is 75 mph. The general flow was 80 mph.
The highest posted speed limit in Canada is 110 kpm but everyone was running 120-135!
Just outside of Edmonton, I passed a rider on a BMW. He fell in behind me and we rode a half hour together before I pulled over to check a map for a Super 8. The BMW followed me over and we introduced ourselves, he’s Gary Couture from Milwaukee and he was going to Alaska too. We’ll start out together tomorrow but since he as to stop for gas, we’ll probably not stay together.
Yo, Dean! Great to see you tooling along the northern trail. Finally got caught up on your adventure and will be following more closely as you head into the more exciting part of your journey. Be safe – have fun – thanks for taking me along!
Uhmmm, Dean, you haven’t been moving today… What’s up!!
what happened to SPOT did you leave it in Edmonton or just sick of riding in the rain?
I think he’s SPOT challenged.
