Crossing International Borders in the European Union

Today we ride from Warsaw, Poland, through Lithuania, to Riga, Latvia.  The roads were mostly two lanes with occasional divided 4-lane.  When passenger vehicles cross a EU country we slow-down and ride through gates of boarded-up border check offices.

Our route through Poland was mostly flat with many farms.  Occasionally we still see bright yellow Rapeseed flowers covering huge patches of the countryside.   As we move to the north Poland, thc farms changed to tall forests.
Lithuania was pretty flat too.  Pass through forests into farmland back to forest.  It seems to be getting greener and greener.

In Lithuania we rode to the village of Vilnius to find the Geographic Center of Europe.  54.906599°, 25.319901°

The stone in the foreground marks the actual geographical center of Europe. The tower was installed for political reasons.

Visitors place coins on the official Geographical Center of Europe.

The tower monument was designed to make the area more significant.

Latvia was again flat but the trees were no longer tall but more round & bushy.
Flashes of lighting and rolling thunder started at 11PM  Heavy rain throughout the night.
