Fairbanks, AK to Wiseman, AK – 263 miles
We’re packed and head out of Fairbanks north on 2. We stop at “Hilltop” for our last gas until Coldfoot. There we meet a guy who is riding a 100cc SYM Symba scooter on his way back from the Arctic Circle. He goes by “DaBinChe” on ADVrider.
The start of the Dalton Hwy is 81 miles north of Fairbanks
Like doggies, the adventure riders have to leave their mark on the James W. Dalton Highway sign. MP 0
Our plan is to take lots of photos of most of the known Dalton Hwy points-of-interest.
The Mile Posts of the noted points-of-interest will not match your GPS if you zero it at Mile Post 0. Over the years, the Dalton Hwy improvements changed the length of the highway but they did not mover the Mile Posts to match the improvements.
Pay attention to the Mile Posts along the side of the road for locate points-of-interest.

Oh yea… the mosquitoes. They are the worst ever! Anytime you stop, within 15-30 seconds there are hundreds swarming around your head. I’ll try and get a mosquito shot.

Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! Beautiful pics, Dean – thanks! And the scooter boy – OMG! There’s hope for me yet – Dennis has 2 scooters – it would be quite the adventure as 1 of them is electric and goes all of 17 mph
I’ll stick to my vicarious trips through Jim & his buddies. I can see you made it to Deadhorse…CONGRATS!! Can’t wait for more of the story!
Gee, and I thought driving through the Rockies was making my hands sweat! (Mik and I took pictures while driving too)
The roller coaster pic is awesome! The young guy on the 100cc scooter brings a new meaning to “Iron Butt” or should it be “Crazy Ass”. Great post and pics! Thanks
