Route: Hammerfest to Skaidi then N6 to Narvik
Mileage: 683 km (424 miles)
Money: Norway’s Kroner 1kr = $0.17 USD or $1 USD = kr 6.02
Fuel: 15.68 kr/L
Weather: Overcast, light snow, hard blowing North Sea winds!
Sunrise & Sunset: 24-hour of sunshine!!!
It’s snow sprinkling when we wake up in Hammersfest. Still snowing when we depart Hammerfest. It’s a fluffy kind of snow that melts when it hits the ground.
At speed it builds up on the windshield and face shield.
It’s 59km to Skaidi where Martin’s H-D Sporty is stored. We deliver keys and original registration so it can be shipped back to Germany.
Out of Skaidi we take E6 south. Another amazing day in the snow! 30-40 km out of Skaidi we crossed over a high plateau pass that was solid white. All around us snow and the low snow clouds merged with the horizon. Only a ribbon of road cut through the white. As we climbed the plateau the wind was from our right. Snow spill over from the right made the road narrower and narrower. Finally near the top, the entire road has a thin cover of snow. Thicker on the right, thinner on the left. A couple of vehicles before us cut a tire path in the snow. We gravitate to the left but occasional oncoming vehicles moves us back to the right tracks. I locked onto that tire path as we descended down the other side. Our speed was 10-20 kph. It was a total of 15 km across the plateau summit and down the pass on the other side.
Snowed the entire first 7 hours down the west coast. Last 3 hours snowed only on the inland-pass crossovers to the next fjord.
Our goal tonight is Mo I Rana, Norway. Approx 300 km. Still on E6.

I’m guessing that you’re going rather slow in the snow ?
Hi Pete,
Thanks for following. Belated happy birthday!
The one day we had snow across the entire road, we were moving at 15-20 mph. No brakes, no down shifting, no big acceleration, nothing that might cause the tires to break traction.
Dean,

Perspective….it did not snow at all in my office today.
The snowest ride in Norway beats a warm day behind a desk everytime!
Ride safe.
Thanks John. The Horizon’s Unlimited meeting near Heidelberg should be interesting. Many, many other world moto travels will be there. Then it’s off to Slovakia!
Wow – the adventure just gets better…It is obvious you are loving every minute of this adventure Dean -good on you. Spectacular scenery – thanks for the shots…if you have more, please post – the snow shots are awesome…be safe brother.
Sideshow Dave,
It’s fun to get comments from you. This European ride is a great learning experience. Having a base camp enables me to test and retest to see what works and what doesn’t.
NB – We get it. It’s cold, wet, snow, more cold, more wet, more snow, crashes, fog, ice, cold, so enough already! We want FUN, FRIVOLITY, wrong turns, u-turns, bad border crossings, funky foodstuffs, crazy locals makin’ stink eye at Danish furrinners – you know, a Ride Report! What the heck. You haven’t even fallen over much OR had to pick up your riding buddies bike either. Boring!!! Gimme some goofball antics, something silly, stupid or just plain old hysterical. Holy Cow, I’ve been waiting for a month for this stuff to make me laugh and you are letting me down. So buckle down there bacon boy and gimme some good old fashion FUN!!! Hi to your riding buddy too!!! Miss you guys
Lumpy,
) I know it’s boring but someone’s gotta do it.
Inorder to have goofball antics I need to be riding with my ol’ goofball riding partner — you!. But you’ve gone housewife on me! I’m on a boring ride through Scandinavia and you’re on the thrill of baking cookies and the agony of shopping at Costco. We’ll try to see what hysteria we can create today but — dang it’s difficult when everyone we meet are just interested on where we’re from, where we are going and why we are riding in the snow showers. Guess you’re going to have to watch “Dancing with the Stars” or “Desperate Housewives of Orange County” for excitement tonight. I’m gonna go pack the bike and ride all day on a road I haven’t been on before…
My riding buddy concurs with this thought! :^P““
well, that’s all pompous and condescending and all. Good job there and yay for you. And when I am old enough to retire I look forward to boring trips too! Meanwhile, the rest of us are hoping that you two are actually having fun on this adventure, as opposed to the boring crap you’re posting. So throw us a freaking bone and tell us more than about the temperature (yawn) or road conditions (whatever). Jeez. Isn’t there some fun or excitement or something of actual interest???? YOu must be meeting people of interest, or fun, exciting food, or great places you’re staying. Right??? And I don’t believe you actually HAVE a riding buddy unless he is Caspar the friendly ghost. No photos, no name, no nothing…just sayin….
Dean, Keep up the good work. Love the pic’s and the commentary. I agree with you…with Lisa on the last ride it was like watching the old Saturday Matinee cliff-hangers where you had to go back the next weekend to see how the hero didn’t get hurt when he fell off the cliff and how the heroine escaped the oncoming train after being tied to the tracks. ‘Twas exiting reading on your last trip, but sometimes “boring” is just fine. Be careful out there and continue having a great time. More Pic’s are always good, too. Paige
