Croatia is not a EU member … yet. So money is kunas. Croatia will become a EU member in a month or two. Everyone will take Euros but will only give back change in kunas.
Most of the route is 2-lane along the Adriatic Sea. There were some short autobahn stretches but we avoided most. |

We crossed into a little strip of the country Bosnia & Herzegovina (20km) then back into Croatia. We are at the Hotel PETKA in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The hotel is right across the ferry port.
Rain followed us to Dubrovnik
Beautiful blue skies all day until 100 km out of Dubrovnik then rain! Rained all night and at 9AM still raining. Around noon we will ride southeast down to the country of Montenegro. |
|
We must return by 6PM to get into line to board the ferry from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Bari, Italy (an overnight ferry). We have a sleeping cabin on the ferry.

This close and we have to cross into Montenegro. It’s a 30 km ride to Herceg-Novi, Montenegro. We stop for fuel to get at printed receipt. Our plan was to make a circle riding up into Bosnia & Herzegovina then back to the Dubrovnik, Croatia ferry terminal.
Once at the border booth, we are asked for passport, green card insurance showing Montenegro, and vehicle registration.
We did not plan for the 1 hour border crossing and rain. Along the coast the rain was sprinkles. The loop into Bosnia & Herzegovina would take us into heavy all day rain. It was raining where we turned around. Traffic was moderate and we got separated. As I pulled over to wait for the last rider, in a left hand small sweeper, I lost traction of my front wheel and down I went at 15 mph. My saddlebag took most of the fall over impact with a few new scratches. The frame slider and engine crash bar again paid for themselves! A couple locals came over to help me lift the bike and a quick visual showed no damage other than my ego. Within 30 seconds I was back on the road. A more careful inspection at the next gas station showed no damage except of cosmetic scratches. |
|
We spent the rest of the afternoon riding back to the ferry terminal along the rugged coastline stopping at little café’s for a coffee and sunny warmth.
The ferry is typical with 30+ tour buses, 20+ tractor/trailer freight units and 30+ cars/campers and maybe a dozen motorcycles.

We get to a Harley HOG Rally at a fancy campground Norcenni Girasole Club, Figline Valdarno Firenze, Italy.
Spent today getting new rubber on the Strompasourus. The ME880′s are now 2 years old and approaching 12,000 miles. I could probably get another 2K out of them but I was loosing confidence in the traction ability as I head into the Alps again. I went with a pair of Pirelli Scorpion Dual Sport tires. |
Hope the rain and flooding do not follow you!
